PUDUCHERRY: With the arrest of five persons here on Saturday night, the police claimed to have thwarted A plan to murder a rival gang and to commit dacoity. They also seized two country-bombs and four knive.sThe arrested persons were identified as Janarthanan (22), Nithiya Joseph (26), Maran Jayakumar (24), Sugumar (25) and Sridhar (25). Two other history-sheeters who were also with the gang managed to escape when the police closed in on them.Based on information from Special Task Fores (STF) SI Ramesh, the Lawspet police station SI Ramaiyan and his team zeroed in on a group of seven persons assembled near the L&T building on the ECR on Saturday. They were said to be discussing plans to commit dacoity and to eliminate some rivals. The police managed to nab five of them, while two others escaped.SP Sivadasan confirmed that two country-made bombs and four long knives were seized from them. Of those arrested, Nithiya Joseph, Maran and Sridhar were involved in the murder of history-sheeter Vella Selvam. While Nithiya was also booked for an attempt to murder in Mudaliarpet, Maran is involved in other murder cases in Mudaliarpet and D Nagar.
