CWG scam-accused Kalmadi admitted to AIIMS
The 67-year-old MP from Pune was admitted to the cardio neuro-sciences department.

New Delhi: Sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail, was on Monday admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a fresh medical checkup.

"Kalmadi has been admitted and he is in room number 1001. Few formalities, as per the norms for MPs, were done in the morning before admitting him," an AIIMS doctor said.

The 67-year-old MP from Pune, who arrived at around 10:00 am on Monday, was admitted to the cardio neuro-sciences department of the hospital in a private ward.

When asked why was he being admitted, Kalmadi retorted, "Ask the doctors. Can't I have a checkup?".

A three member team of doctors including, Dr M V Padma, cardiologist Dr Rakesh Yadav and Dr Aarti Vij, has been formed to conduct tests on him.

Kalmadi, who is in jail for his alleged involvement in CWG scam, was first taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on July 12 after he complained of dizziness.

"After tests, the hospital referred him to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital to undergo an MRI test of the brain. The MRI was done on July 19," DIG Tihar Prisons RN Sharma had said earlier.

The test results stated in medical jargon, "Diffused cerebral atrophy with old ischemic changes in brain parenchyma with calcified granuloma in caudothalamic groove on left side (of his brain)".

"After reading the MRI reports, DDU doctors advised us to show him to a good neuro specialist either at AIIMS or GB Pant hospital. Kalmadi, being an MP, requested in writing to be admitted to AIIMS. That is why he is being taken there for further treatment," Sharma had said.

Kalmadi was first taken to AIIMS on July 28 for medical investigations and doctors had opined that he be admitted there for a 'short duration'.

After the check-up, Kalmadi had dismissed reports that he was suffering from dementia, a disease related to memory loss.
