CWG: court to hear Kalmadi's bail plea today
The bail plea was postponed after Kalmadi claimed to include 'new facts' to prove his innocence.

New Delhi: Former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman and CWG scam accused Suresh Kalmadi's bail plea will come up for hearing on Thursday.

It was postponed on Saturday after Kalmadi claimed to include 'new facts' in the Swiss Timing and Scoring contract that would prove his innocence.

Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh issued orders to delay the bail plea.

CBI has plans to file a supplementary chargesheet so that certain uninvestigated areas can be highlighted.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 25 arrested Suresh Kalmadi for irregularities in the Commonwealth Games.

He was arrested under Sections 120 B and 420 (criminal conspiracy and cheating) of the Indian Penal Code in the Commonwealth Games Time Scoring Equipment scam. Kalmadi reportedly conspired to favour a private firm in Switzerland by awarding contract at inflated cost of Rs 141 crore.

The CBI claimed that the contract was given by wrongfully restricting and eliminating competition from other suppliers in pre-mediated manner.

Kalmadi was sacked as Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman following allegations of his involvement in Commonwealth Games corruption cases on January 24, 2011.

Till now seven people including Kalmadi have been arrested in connection with the Commonwealth Games scam. The others who have been arrested include Verma, Lalit Bhanot, Sanjay Mohindroo, M Jayachandran, TS Darbai and Kalmadi's personal assistant Shekhar Deorukhkar.
