Following the students’ protest against the sharp fee hike, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has reduced the fees by up to 25 per cent for the various courses and examinations.
The sub-committee constituted to revise the fee structure held talks with the students and made the recommendations at the last Syndicate meeting.
The fees have been revised as per the recommendations of the students, university Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath said.
The Cusat Syndicate has also decided to do away with the fee hike for the supplementary examinations.
As per the revised structure, the tuition fee has been reduced from `10,000 to `8,000 for naval architecture and ship building, polymer science and rubber technology, and MCA courses.
For BTech instrumentation, the fees have been brought down from `15,000 to ` 12,000. The fees of various MTech regular courses have also been cut down by 20 per cent and is now `12,000.
For regular MSc courses, the fees have undergone a 25 per cent reduction from `2,000 to `1,500. The same has been effected for the regular MA course except economics. The fees for MBA full-time course have been reduced to `20,000 from `25,000. Also, the fees for PG diploma courses have been cut from `18,000 to `3,500. A proportionate reduction has been made in the fee structure for scrutiny, revaluation and supplementary exams.
The sub-committee has recommended the same fees for the regular and supplementary examinations. Measures will be taken to issue fellowship for the research scholars on time.
