Agartala: In a bizarre incident, a 22-year-old man in Tripura killed his mother on Thursday, police said.
"Biswajit Bhaumik strangled his mother Jyotsna Bhaumik, 48, to death in an inebriated condition after she refused to give him money to buy liquor," Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Bijoy Kumar Nag said.
Nag said: "During interrogation the man said he was angry with his widowed mother as she was having 'illicit relations' with a family friend."
Biswajit, also a state-level cricketer, was arrested as soon as the woman's body was found.
Biswajit was produced before the chief judicial magistrate who sent him in judicial custody for 14 days.
Biswajit led the Tripura's official cricket team in Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 tournaments. For his all round performance, he was called by the National Cricket Academy in 2004 for coaching.
