Ahead of the crucial meeting of the Cauvery River Authority convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today held discussions with senior cabinet colleagues and officials to finalise the state's arguments to be placed in the meeting.
Jayalalithaa chaired a "detailed consultative meeting" with Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan, besides Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi, an official press release here said.
The Chief Minister and her team discussed the issues and arguments to be placed before the CRA tomorrow, it said.
The CRA is being convened following the Centre's assurance to the Supreme Court recently. Jayalalithaa, who will be participating in the meeting, had repeatedly urged the Centre to convene the CRA to discuss the water-sharing dispute with Karnataka.
Shettar holds discussions with Krishna
Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today called on External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and held talks on the Cauvery River Authority meeting at Delhi tomorrow, sources said.
Shettar was accompanied by water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, they said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will chair the CRA meeting for the first time in nine years tomorrow primarily to discuss Tamil Nadu's demand that Karnataka release water from Cauvery river to save the crops that depend on it.
The sources said the Chief Minister also greeted Krishna on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi festival.
