Kolkata: The COVID-19 discharge rate in Bengal rose to 84.48 per cent on Friday as 3,305 more people recovered from the disease, the health department said. The death toll due to the infection mounted to 3,452 with 58 fresh fatalities, the department said in its bulletin.
At least 2,978 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state, which pushed the tally to 1,74,659. Kolkata accounted for 17 fresh fatalities.
Fourteen deaths were recorded in North 24 Parganas, five each in Howrah, South 24 Parganas, and Paschim Medinipur, two each in Hooghly, Murshidabad, Paschim Bardhaman and Darjeeling, and one each in Purba Bardhaman, Nadia, Uttar Dinajpur and Alipurduar. Of the 58 deaths, 45 were due to the comorbidities, where COVID-19 was incidental, the department said.
North 24 Parganas reported the maximum number of new cases at 572, followed by the state capital at 422. The number of active coronavirus cases in the state currently stands at 23,654, which 1,47,553 people have recovered from the disease so far.
As many as 45,620 samples have been tested for COVID- 19 in the last 24 hours, raising the number of such examinations in Bengal to 20,66,404, the bulletin added. PTI SCH RMS RMS 09042336 NNNN.
