CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday opposed the draft National Food Security Bill and said that while rice has been supplied free of cost to all under the Universal Public Distribution System in the State, wheat and sugar, special PDS commodities like toor dal, urad dal, fortified palmolein and atta were supplied at highly subsidised rates.She said that no individuals were permitted to run fair price shops and only co-op societies and the TNCSC, apart from women SHGs numbering 32,977, had been engaged in the task. The annual subsidy for the State was Rs 5,000 crore, she said, adding that there was effective monitoring, vigilance and grievance redressal in the State in respect of PDS.She urged the Centre to not only continue supply foodgrains at existing price and in same pattern but also to restore the monthly allotment of kerosene.
