KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the registry to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Kochi City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar for not complying with a court order regarding police protection.Justice P R Ramachandra Menon directed the registry to place the matter before the appropriate Bench for taking further action. The court passed the order while considering a petition filed by David Peter, president, PTA of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat). He alleged that despite a specific direction from the court, the commissioner refused to give police protection while closing unauthorised openings in the compound wall of Cusat. The court also directed to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Secretary and the Building Inspector of the Kalamassery Municipality who were earlier given stop memo in this issue.Coming down heavily on the commissioner, the court observed that the commissioner either did not know the job or was dancing in tune with some others or he was being wrongly advised by the officers who represent the state before the court. “The commissioner himself had withdrawn from the duty to offer police protection as ordered by the court and has stated that the police could not provide protection to complete the construction. There is contumacious act on the part of the commissioner,” the court said.
