PUDUCHERRY: V Arumugham, who had unsuccessfully contested against chief minister Rangasamy at Indira Nagar in the assembly election, will be the Congress candidate for the Indira Nagar by-election scheduled for October 13.Arumugham’s (47) name was finalised after PCC president AV Subramanian and former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam held discussions with AICC general secretary and Puducherry-in -charge Ghulam Aabi Azad in New Delhi.In the April 13 election, All India Namathu Rajyam Congress chief and present chief minister Rangasamy defeated Congress rival Arumugham, a former cop, by a margin of 16,677 votes. Arumugham could secure only 4,008 votes. But Rangsamy, who had won from two seats, decided to resign from Indira Nagar.Meanwhile, BSP has announced in a release that K Vaidyanathan will be party’s official candidate for the by-poll.
