Congress MLA campaigns for DMDK nominees

NAGERCOIL: Although actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth’s DMDK party has an alliance with CPM, the campaign by Congress MLA Vijayadharani in favour of DMDK’s Arumanai town panchayat councillor candidates has created a ruckus among the DMDK partymen in the district.   Arumanai is a town panchayat situated near Thiruvattar in the district and 6 candidates, representing DMK, AIADMK, BJP, CPI(M), Congress and an independent candidate, are contesting for the town panchayat president post, while 87 candidates are in the contest for the 15 councillor vacancies.     Meanwhile, it was said that the Congress candidate  for president post and some of the DMDK councillor candidates in Arumanai town panchayat are facing the local body elections by forming an alliance among themselves, ignoring the party alliances formed at the state-level. “Although the DMDK and CPM have an alliance at the State-level, we, the Congress, have an alliance with DMDK at Arumanai,” Congress president candidate for Arumanai town panchayat Kamalan told Express. He said the Congress had fielded its candidates in 9 wards at Arumanai town panchayat and in remaining 6 wards, DMDK candidates are contesting with Congress support.
