New Delhi: The Congress is up in arms after a Delhi Police team reportedly visited Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's residence last week. Reports suggest that a Delhi Police constable asked questions about Gandhi's physical appearance.
The official reportedly asked about his complexion, hair colour and more. The Congress called the questioning a breach of Rahul Gandhi's privacy.
The Congress, agitated over police's 'intrusive' visit to the party office, also demanded a statement from the government on the issue.
The Delhi Police has, however, defended the move saying the enquiries were made as there were burglaries reported in the area. Police claim that there had been series of thefts at the residence of several MPs and in light of that security audits were done at the homes of many MPs.
The police have denied asking for details about Rahul Gandhi's appearance and called it a routine enquiry.
Rahul Gandhi has been on leave is not attending the Budget Session of Parliament where Congress MPs have been protesting vociferously against the Land Acquisition Bill. He is likely to return just before the first half of Budget Session concludes on March 20.
The Congress leadership has been claiming that Rahul has gone of leave to introspect on the party and is not running away from his responsibilities. On the other hand Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have mocked at Rahul and alleged that he was not willing to take responsibility for the party's poor electoral results.
Even in the past, Rahul has had a record of low attendance in the Lok Sabha and was absent during many crucial discussions and debate in the last few sessions. The AICC session is expected in early April and reports have suggested that Rahul could be made the party chief on that occasion.
