The Congress party has called for a statewide bandh on Friday in Gujarat over the recent unrest caused by suspended IPS officer Vanzara's letter. The party is demanding the resignation of Narendra Modi as Chief Minister over the allegations made by Vanzara in his resignation letter.
Congress has alleged on Thursday that the Gujarat government would resort to high handedness to foil the shut down call given by them party.
"This government, which has lost moral grounds to stay in power for even one day, has started threatening traders and other people not to join in Friday's bandh. We fear that this government will resort to high handedness so that people don't succeed in showing their disappointment," Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela told reporters on Thursday.
"Tomorrow is Mahavir Jayanti and we have decided that whatever violent steps this government will take, we will lodge our strongest protest by adhering to non-violent ways," he said.
Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia alleged that, the administration across the state has started all-out efforts to ensure that people don't support the bandh call from Thursday itself.
"We want to warn those officers not to snatch away our constitutional rights to protest, or else they will have to face the consequences." He appealed to the people of the state to show their disappointment towards the Modi government without any fear.
"After IPS officer D G Vanzara's letter, the real criminal and murderous face of this government has been exposed and it should resign immediately," he said.
In his resignation letter, suspended IPS officer Vanzara claimed that he and his men had merely implemented the Gujarat government's conscious policy of "zero tolerance" towards terrorism.
