BANGALORE: Lecturers working in undergraduate colleges affiliated to state universities wants to work till 65 years of age.
While a section of the faculty are stressing to get retirement at 60 years, a large section of teachers are demanding to get retirement at 65 years.Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya said that undergraduate teachers come under state government preview. But All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations Vice President Dr R Halesh says that they get increment once in 10 years based on UGC scale. "Unlike the state government, we do not get hike once in five years," he said.

He further said though they are the employees of the state government, but other conditions such as appointment, placement and promotions are as per UGC regulations.

Pension problem

Halesh says that under graduate teachers at Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are retiring at 65 years, only in Karnataka, teachers are retiring at 60 years.
