KOCHI: With panic gripping Idukki and adjoining areas over the Mullaperiyar issue, the Chief Minister’s office received more than 6,000 e-mails and as many as 1,000 calls in the last two days expressing concern over the Mullaperiyar dam.  More than 100 calls were received on Sunday itself, at the Chief Minister’s 24X7 call centre from Idukki and surrounding regions, officials at the CM’s office said. As many as 400 e-mails were also received on Sunday, expressing anxiety over the safety of the dam and seeking immediate redressal of the issue.Apart from the calls received at the Chief Minister’s office, the Idukki Collector’s office also received around 1000 calls, mainly from Europe and the US. They were mainly concerned about the safety of their relatives and asked for solving the issue at the earliest, District Collector E Devadasan told Express. “Most of the e-mails have come from Idukki, surrounding districts, Europe,the US and Dubai. Most of the mails that have come from outside were about their concerns for the relatives back in the state,” the officials said.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and Idukki Collector E Devadasan were intimated about the calls and the e-mails received, they said.
