CHENNAI: Representatives of the Confederation of Surface Transport called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat on Thursday and assured that five lakh lorries and other vehicles belonging to their organisation would not take part in the nationwide strike scheduled for August 19.Talking to reporters after holding discussions with the chief minister, President of the Confederation of the Surface Transport R Sukumar said Jayalalithaa had assured them that their demands would be considered favourably. He said Jayalalithaa had promised to take appropriate action with regard to the customs duty.Lorry tankers, tipper lorries, trailers, vans and other vehicles would ply as usual, he said.
