Washington D C Recognizing the urgent need to slow down climate change, US President Barack Obama has begun reversing the climate policies of the Bush administration.
Obama issued directives requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to consider allowing the US states to cut greenhouse gases emitted by vehicles.
He also ordered the Transportation Department to boost fuel economy standards for cars and trucks for the 2011 model year.
Last year, the Bush administration had turned down California's request to allow the state to impost stricter limits on vehicular carbon emissions, blamed for Global Warming.
