CHENNAI: The city on Sunday suffered excessive heat waves as the sea breeze set in late. Met officals said that westerly winds were the reason for the late setting in of the sea breeze, a regular summer phenomenon.During summer in Chennai, the rise in temperature depends on the time the sea breeze sets in. An early onset of the sea breeze would mean that the temperature stays in check. But a late onset of the sea breeze, as was the case on Thursday and Sunday, invariably means an inching up of the mercury.Met officials said,“People experienced heat waves, as the sea breeze set in late . Today, the temperature was 42.3 degree celsius, and the humidity was at 60 percent.” On Thursday this week too, the sea breeze set in late at 2:50 pm, they added. On Sunday, the maxium temperature at Nungambakkam was 42.3 degree and minimum was 30.73 and at Meenambakkam, the maximum temperature was 42.8 degree and the minimum 29.2 degree. The Met predits an uncomfortable, hot day would prevail on Monday with temperature at 42 degree celsius.
