Pune: Indian golfer Ganganjeet Bhullar says achieving a top-10 finish at the CIMB Classic, where he rubbed shoulders with legendary Tiger Woods, is one accomplishment he cherishes the most. "That was, you can say, the most satisfying moment of my career. Of course, the one at Macau, where I won, was also great. But considering the field at CIMB, I was very happy with my performance there," Bhullar said on Saturday.
"I was tied with Tiger after the third round and finally settled for the 10th position, it was pretty good," he added.
Bhullar, along with team-mate Rashid Khan, helped Wital See Punjab take the lead on the second day of the inaugural Golf Premier League here on Saturday. The 10th-place finish at the USD 6.1 million CIMB tournament last year came just after he triumphed at Macau and Chinese Taipei, which ended a 32-month win-less streak.
Bhullar has been on an endorsements signing spree ever since breaking into the top-100, but the 24-year-old golfer felt he has been doing it since 2009. "I don't think its new I have been doing it since 2009 I think. I have part of brands like Mercedes and Oakleys." One of the most expensive Indian players in the GPL auction, Bhullar made six birdies and an eagle as his team grabbed the lead at the Aamby Valley course. "I hit well today, found all 14 fairways, but putting was not that good as I made only two putts inside 10 feet. I have won here once on PGTI and holds the course record of eight-under. Had it been an 18-hole tournament, I would have broken my record," he said.
Bhullar appreciated the Aamby course, which is hosting the eight-team franchise-based event. "The course is lovely, it is as good as the ones we get on Asian tours," he said.
Bhullar had already expressed his wish to break into the elite group of world top 50 players. The top 50 players on the international circuit get to play the competitive PGA Tour tournaments and World Golf Championship events, and Bhullar has been targetting that for quite some time.
Khan said his putting made the difference today. "Putting was the difference today. I was not very confident about my putting yesterday though I hit the balls pretty well, better than today," Khan said. "The team is in a good position and we would look to build on it tomorrow, and of course, win the title."
