KOCHI: Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in collaboration with Cusat is conducting a five-day Regional Children’s Science Congress from November 1 to 5 at Cusat.K Radhakrishnan, Chairman, ISRO, Bangalore will give the inaugural address. K Mohandas, Vice-Chancellor, Kerala University of Health Sciences, will give the keynote address.Ramachandran Thekkedath, Vice-Chancellor, Cusat, will give the presidential address.  A Y Reddy, assistant commissioner,Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Hyderabad region, will welcome the gathering.  Around 150 students selected from the Navodaya Vidyalayas of the southern states along with 25 selected teachers will be participating.  The aim of the Congress is to provide a forum for young talented students to arouse and pursue their curiosity and help quench their thirst for creativity by watching and doing experiments.  To help students meet eminent scientists, have face-to-face interactions and experience the thrill of being with them.  To nurture and nourish creativity and innovativeness by helping them acquire knowledge and solve problems by relating their experience to physical and social environs.  To provide and opportunity to students to go beyond school limits, to visit labs of national standards and further stimulate and help them observe, collect data, analyse and arrive at conclusions.  To prepare the young generation to face challenges by encouraging the development of experimental and investigate skills and help them become future scientists.  And to create awareness regarding advancement in science studies.   The activities of the Science Congress include interaction with eminent scientists, visits to prominent science institutions and laboratories, seminars, quiz, and presentations. Interview with eminent scientists and paper presentations of great innovations are the other highlights.Students would also get a chance to watch the miniplanetarium in the ‘Astrovan’ of Kerala Science and Technology Museum. Sky watching is another interesting part of the event.Ramachandran Thekkedath, Pro-vice-Chancellor Godfrey Louis, K George Thomas, Professor, IISER, Thiruvananthapuram, V P N Nampoori, Emeritus Professor, Cusat, A Vijayakumar, Mohammed Hatha, Babu Philip and K Girish Kumar from Cusat, R Rajesh and Reji John from NPOL and C N Ravishankar, CIFT, will be leading the interactions.
