BANGALORE: More than 300 children gathered to celebrate Children’s Day in BOSCO Mane on Monday to articulate that were not afraid of policemen. The destitute children presented a memorandum to Pranab Mohanthi, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), on how the children would like the police interact with them. “Children are usually scared of the police. That is why we incorporated the theme Police Protect Us. The children want to tell them that it is the right and duty of the police to protect them,” said Fr P S George, executive director- BOSCO. Pranab Mohanthi interacted with the children and urged them to become police officials in future. “I want to tell you (kids) that the police are your good friends. I want you all to study well to become police officials,” he said amidst loud cheering by unassuming children. Children were excited to see Veerabhadregowda, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Banashankari Sub-Division, in his uniform. He said: “It’s painful when I look at kids in Market, Majestic and Kalasipalya in torn clothes begging. I want to see children educated. That is where my association with BOSCO began. I coordinate with them to rehabilitate missing children,” he said. The programme also focussed on taking deprived children back to mainstream education. “The entire country is celebrating today. We did not want these kids to feel left out. There is some sort of fear among these children to go to school. We are working towards creating an alternative. Once kids are ready for formal schooling, we fulfill the requirement,” said Fr George.
