KOCHI: The district level sub-junior Chess Championship organised by the Chess Association, Ernakulam, was held on Sunday at the Minerva Hall in Kalamassery. Anjali Manoj of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Kakkanad; Ashitha K M of Little Hearts Paravoor; Hilmi Parveen of Nirmala High School, Aluva and Jyothika U R of St Ann High School, Kottapuram won the sub-junior level Chess Championship in the girls category. The president of Chess Association, Ernakulam M B Muraleedharan and secretary M S Ananthakrishnan gave the prizes. The students in each category went through six rounds to win the game. A total of 55 students including 40 girls and 15 boys participated in the championship. It also included eight students, six boys and two girls with Fide Chess ratings.  The final part of the sub-junior level competition will be held in Pala from 26-27  May. Those qualified will be absorbed for the national championship. Meanwhile the under-11 district level championship will be held next Sunday, on 27 May at the Sati Chess Club in Kaloor. The 23rd Cusat International Rating Chess Tournament will also be held at the Cusat campus in Kalamassery.
