Chennai: In continuing support for Anna Hazare in his fight for a strong Lokpal Bill, people from various walks of life, including students, on Monday held rallies and candle light vigil in the city.
About 600 students of city-based MNM Jain Engineering College took out a rally to LB Road in Thiruvanmiyur, where volunteers of the Chennai chapter of India Against Corruption are holding an indefinite fast for the seventh day, and raised slogans in support of Anna.
Students of The New College staged a human chain in front of their college.
A group of persons held a candlelight vigil for the third day in Anna Nagar locality on Monday evening.
At the LB Road, the epicentre of pro-Hazare protests in the city, four persons on fast were advised to withdraw after they were diagonsed with 'jaundice', an IAC spokesperson said.
"The remaining 20 fasting members, including an 81-year old man and a disabled person, have lost weight," the spokesperson said.
The Tamil film industry is set to join the anti-corruption campaign calling for a one-day token fast at the Film Chamber premises on Tuesday.
Though it is on a voluntary basis, members of South Indian Film Artists Association, Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council, Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and other technicians were expected to participate in the protest, )," a member of the producers council and Film Federation of India President L Suresh said.
