In technical education Tamil Nadu is a leader in the country. However, a check on dropouts at the higher education level is needed, apart from ensuring larger number of enrolments, stressed Governor of Tamil Nadu Dr K Rosaiah at the annual day celebrations of the Madras School of Economics on Monday.

“As providing access to higher education, affordability and quality are the government’s prime agenda, many new Central Universities, IIMs and IITs have been started,” said the Governor.

While presenting the trophies and certificates to the rank holders, he said that our economy is highly vulnerable to global crude oil prices and curtailing inflation is one of the major challenges.

In his address he said, “Tamil Nadu is a frontrunner and a leader in technical education. Ensuring more enrolment and having a check on drop outs at higher education level is needed. The State government in its vision document, ‘Vision Tamil Nadu 2023’ has an emphasis on the need for training and enhancing skills of youth. Quality is the key to success in any field. Mere graduation is not sufficient, but you have to become a master in your fields. The responsibility of taking our nation to greater heights lies on your shoulders”.

Dr C Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Madras School of Economics was also present on the occasion.
