“Emerging Kerala 2012- a global connect programme to be held in Kochi in September, will not be about just signing MoUs,” said Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, he said, “The event will be about creating opportunities. Kerala will take the lead in not just manufacturing industry but also in tourism, education, health and finance. Our aim is to double the power generation in the next two years.”
He opined that Kerala had adeqaute skilled manpower, land availability and power capacity. “As of now, we have large tracts of land for industrial development,” he said, adding that on PPP basis, the state planned to develop urban mass rapid transport system. The global meet will be held between September 12 and 14, in Kochi. “The focus of Kerala’s 12th five-year-plan was e-governance and development of IT-enabled services,” said V Somasundaran, additional chief secretary (Industries), Government of Kerala.
“From September 1, all government departments in the state will come under a single window tracking system. Petitioners can track their petitions online. The Government has planned to spend `40,000 crore on e governance initiatives,” he said. More than 35 countries have confirmed participation in the programme.
