KOLLAM: CPM leader and Kundara MLA M A Baby said that the criticism levelled by CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan against CPM, was part of an attempt to gain media attention by creating unnecessary controversies.Terming Chandrappan’s comments as unhealthy and unfortunate, he hoped that the CPI state secretary will realise that his comments will only serve to disrupt unity in the front. The CPM leader was addressing a party meeting at Ayathil near here on Monday.The CPI state secretary had made serious remarks against CPM and its state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan during an interview published by a daily on Monday. He had also flayed the controversial ‘Last Supper’ portrait by CPM. Baby said that the CPI is a party which had offered its support for the Emergency and had assumed the role of a betrayer during the period. Hence they have no right to speak about democracy. Responding to comments by Chandrappan that the CPM state conference is being conducted by an event management group, he said that CPM had enough membership base and doesn’t need to outsource the conduct of the event. Referring to Chandrappan’s criticism on Pinarayi Vijayan’s stand on the Lavalin case, Baby he did not understand why Chandrappan mentioned about the case even after it was found that no corruption was involved in the case.
