Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that the Education Department would document century-old schools in the state.
After inaugurating a Government Urdu Higher Primary School Number 3 located at Kantigalli here on Monday, he said the documentation of the pioneers of education sector would be brought out in the form of CDs and handbooks.
He directed the BEOs and DDPIs to identify such schools located at taluk and district-levels and make all efforts to document the history of those schools.
Pointing out that these schools existed even during the British rule and produced several eminent personalities, Kageri said it was not only the responsibility of the government to introduce these schools to the society but also to fund them to improve their infrastructure.
Underlining the government’s special concern for the Education Department, he noted that `12,500 crore had been allotted in the budget for education.
On the newly inaugurated Urdu Higher Primary School, he noted that the Hubli- Dharwad Municipal Corporation allotted nine guntas of land for the school and the government sanctioned `25 lakh for the building.
As the school needs more classrooms, the minister assured that MLA Seema Masuti and the state government would sincerely approve the same and sanction funds at the earliest.
He called upon minority communities to send their children, particularly girls, to schools.
Hazarat Syedshah Murtuja Hussaini and Mallikarjun Swamiji of Murugha mutt graced the occasion.
Member of the Legislative Assembly Seema Masuti presided over the programme.
