On the banks of the Krishna River, the temple of Lord Sugureshwara is situated, located in the district of Raichur, Karnataka. Here, a centuries-old prasad-giving practice is held, believed to be a very fruitful and auspicious occasion.
As per the reports by Local18, the temple is also the resting place of the legendary Chennaveera Guru, believed to be the reincarnation of Veerabhadra. The people have a firm faith in the glories achieved by Lord Sugureshwara.
Each year, a special prasad program is held at the temple called the curd butti. Over a thousand devotees come to take part in the celebrations and enjoy the food offered. According to more information, the devotees cover long distances to be a part of it.
The temple’s curd has a very interesting and significant, centuries-old history, revealing that it is a part of an ancient tradition. In the 12th century, the Basavanna of Kalyana decided to offer daily prasad to around one lakh ninety-six thousand jangamas. They fell short of nearly six thousand jangamas, who were found to be at the house of Mahadevarasa Mudra in Kashmir. So, Basavanna welcomed them back with the rice and curd dish along with the arrival of Sugureshwara Swamy. Chennaveera, who is believed to be the reincarnation of Veerabhadra was also involved in the occasion. Since then, the practice has been followed every year.
Several dishes are prepared for the occasion. Local18 reports that the devotees can enjoy dishes like khadak jowar roti, brinjal curry, ambali, ullagaddi chutney, curd and many other items. The devotees also get to have a taste of the curd butti, the speciality of the event.
Aside from the Lord Sugureshwara temple, the devotees can also visit places like Raichur Fort, Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple and the Manvi Fort, all located in the district.
