The protest against the release of water to Tamil Nadu entered the 4th day on Sunday. The Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti has resolved to demand that all MPs and ministers of the state at the Centre quit and support the protest if the Cauvery River Authority does injustice to Karnataka, by asking it to release water to Tamil Nadu at its meeting to be held on Monday.
Addressing the protestors in front of the Sir M Visvesvaraya statue in Mandya, Samiti president G Madegowda on Sunday announced the five resolutions.
Referring to the all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Madegowda said the committee urged the CM to defend the state strongly at the meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and draw the attention of the PM to the severe drought persisting in the state and ask him not to bow to the pressure of the Authority.
Giving statistics of the water levels in reservoirs, he said that there is more than 40 TMC ft water in Mettur Dam and it is enough for Samba crop. But in KRS, there is only 26 TMC ft water which is not sufficient for drinking purposes and crops. Mandya District Private Schools Managements Association extended its full support to the protest.
On Monday, students of all schools and colleges will participate in a rally which will commence from Silver Jubilee Park, pass through the main streets of the city and culminate at Sir M Visvesvaraya statue.
