New Delhi: The CAT examination results are out and the scores can be accessed by logging on to any of the IIM websites.

At 1500 hours IST the IIM Kozikode web site was the first one to make the results available online. The merit list, that is the list of candidates who will get a call for group discussion and interview is expected to be out by Tuesday midnight.

"CAT results have been put up on the website of all IIMs and students can access them from anywhere," Director of IIM Lucknow, Devi Singh said. "Interview and Group Discussion for admissions to IIMs would start in March," he added.

IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata are likely to give out the list of selected candidates by late Tuesday night.

Meanwhile IIM Lucknow has said they'll come out with their list of shortlisted candidates before the January 8.

The six IIMs together account for a measly 1,300 seats while 1.9lakh students appeared for the CAT examination in November last year.

CAT is held every year for admissions to six IIMs and 80 other management institutes in the country. Considered a passport to six-figure salaries and corporate paradise, the test was taken by more than 1,90,000 students across India this year.

Despite the eligibility criteria being hiked to 50 per cent marks from this academic session onwards, the number of applicants went up by 20 per cent.

CAT is considered the toughest among MBA examinations and consists of three segments – (1) Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, (2) Data Interpretation and Logical Ability and (3) Quantitative Ability.

To qualify for the interview and Group Discussion, a general category students need to score 25 per cent in each subject, while total aggregate should be 33 per cent.

The candidates would compete for only 1,350 seats in the six IIMs, which are expected to be increased in view of the Oversight Committee's report recommending a hike in the capacity of Central educational institutions by 54 per cent in a phased manner over the next three years.
