CHENNAI: Two school children were injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in turned turtle after being hit by a car that jumped the red signal. The driver, a businessman, who fled the spot, was later arrested by St Thomas Mount police.
Police said, auto driver Baskar (48) of Palavanthangal was ferrying six children from a Central government school in Meenambakkam.When he turned right onto GST road towards Guindy, a car, heading to Pallavaram from Vadapalani, jumped a red signal and rammed the autorickshaw. The driver, Sadiq Basha, then drove away.Hariharan (10), a Class V student and Aditya (11), a Class VI student sustained injuries and were admitted to a private hospital. Baskar, who was also injured, was treated as an outpatient.
