Budhia under cardiological stress: Docs
The medical board, which examined Budhia, said it was evident from the findings that the boy was under cardiological stress.

Bhubaneshwar: Budhia cannot run long distances, doctors said on Sunday after conducting a medical examination on him in Bhubaneshwar.

Budhia, just four-and-a-half-years old, ran into the Limca Book of Records just a couple of days ago and on Sunday, doctors told CNN-IBN that the boy should not be made to run long distances.

He was made to run from Puri to Bhubaneswar, a distance of of nearly 65 km, in seven hours and two minutes on May 2.

The medical examination was recommended by the National Human Rights Commission, after the media highlighted how the boy was made to run from Puri to Bhubneswar.

The medical board, which examined the boy, said it was evident from the findings that the boy's protein catabolism was more and he was under cardiological stress probably due to long distance running.

''If the boy continues to run for long distance it may aggravate the condition, may even result in renal failure as suggested in serum urea and serum potassium profile,'' the 13-page report said.

But Biranchi Das, Budhia's coach, is not happy with the medical report. He said the medical examination is a conspiracy and claimed that people will soon come to know that the report is baseless.

The Orissa government too, is considering restraining child marathon prodigy Budhia Singh from running long distance as his medical report said the child should not be subjected to it.

''We are examining the report. We will consult the law and home departments and consider whether the boy can be refrained from running long distance,'' the Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick said.

''I will also consult the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the subject,'' she said adding the government was keen on the welfare of the child prodigy and would like him to be trained at a reputed institution to hone his latent skill.

Budhia has earned a place in the Limca Book of Records on Tuesday last week after running a mind-boggling 65 km from Puri to Bhubaneswar in 7.02 hours. The run triggered a controversy with doctors, coaches and a section of the media questioning the wisdom of making the child run such long distances.

The report said the risk of heat stroke was increased in a child if he was allowed to run for long distance.
