BANGALORE: Independence Day brings innovative ideas among the people and organisations. New dawn Rehabilitation Trust and Skill Training Centre run by Ruksana Hassan made six candles each of four feet height and eight inches diametre, with the concept ‘drug-free India.’Interestingly, these candles are made by recovery addicts, who are in-house members of the rehabilitation centre. “The concept of making candles of such a huge size is to convey a message that the society needs to acquire a monumental size in all respects to fight the hydra-headed menace of drugs and alcohol. Secondly, I want the youth to give light to the society and spread awareness among the youth about the ill-effects of drugs and alcohol,” said Hassan. Each of the four-feet candles weighs 33 kilograms. Having used 33 kilograms of wax, it burns for about 100 days continously. It took about 15 hours to prepare each candle.Sadiq Pasha, Faizal, Dilip and Suresh, the four recovery addicts, who made these candles said, “We want to tell our brothers and sisters not to fall into the menace of drugs and alcohol as we have suffered in all respects. We are now free of this evil and we are now on our way to lead a respectful and dignified life.”
