Port of Spain: The decision of the West Indies Cricket Board to deny Dwayne Bravo retainer contract has irked the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) which said the all-rounder's exclusion will lead to fresh acrimony between the board and the players.
WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine said the move was a breach of the earlier ruling handed down by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA).
Ramnarine said he was surprised, disappointed and shocked by the decision and also called the board's way of informing them of the move, via a news release, as unprofessional, according to a report in CMC Sport.
Late last week the WICB released a list of seven West Indies players who were to be offered contracts with an eighth yet to named.
The board said Bravo was not included as a result of a personal contract he had with Cable and Wireless, the rival of Digicel, the sponsor of West Indies cricket.
The seven who were given the contracts inlcude captain Brian Lara, vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle, Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards and Denesh Ramdin.
