CHENNAI: Simmering tension, faulty webcams and allegations of booth capturing surfaced in various parts of south Chennai during the civic polls on Monday.In Ward 179 of Velacherry, riot police was seen patrolling the Advent School as protestors gathered outside the gate. The situation was tense with candidates from DMK, Congress, MDMK and an Independent alleging booth capturing in Akshaya School by the AIADMK.Interestingly, police denied there was any such incident and the observers remained silent when queries were posed to them. None of the webcams were working in that booth.In Neelankarai-Thoraipakkam, allegations were made against the AIADMK supporters of trying to woo people to vote for their candidate T G Govindasamy. “We reported this to the police, who shooed them away,” said Dhanapal, vice-president of CPI in the region. But they emerged again.At Kanthanchavadi in Perungudi, situation was brought under control with the timely intervention. “Voting was affected for 10 minutes,” said the election official. He dismissed allegations of booth capture. In Sringeri Mutt Road, there were reports of a verbal duel between AIADMK and DMK supporters. In Palavakkam, tension surfaced when some people tried to cast bogus votes.
