CHENNAI: Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank organized a free college book distribution programme on July 9 and distributed textbooks to students of several colleges in the subjects of computer science, engineering, arts, science and commerce. Dr D Viswanathan, former vice chancellor of Anna University was the chief guest who distributed the books and he said it is important for students to gain knowledge and skill, have a positive attitude to achieve success in life and become employable. He also underscored the significance of hard work, honesty, integrity and involvement for the students to succeed in their endeavours and urged the students to work for the government. According to managing trustee of Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya Trust, Ashok Kedia, who welcomed the gathering, the book bank was established in 2000, and nearly 50,000 students from various colleges have benefited from it. So far, the trust has spent `80 lakh towards the purchase of books. He also said that the book bank facility has been extended to students in Bangalore. The book bank is the child of Jaigopal Garodia and was inaugurated by the education minister in 2000. The book bank has grown by leaps and bounds since then, and has seen tremendous growth in a decade years. Around 10,000 students will benefit from the scheme this year. Students must return the books after examinations.
