Bangalore: A phone call to Infosys Technologies that a bomb was planted in the premises of the IT major created some panic waves on Thursday but it turned out to be a hoax after a seven-hour search by police.
"A phone call received by a receptionist at Infosys at 9:30 AM that a bomb was planted in the campus turned out to be a hoax after a seven-hour search," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Division B N S Reddy said.
A bomb disposal squad, a dog squad and a team of police personnel carried out extensive search operations in over 80 buildings in the premises and found the call to be hoax.
"The call has been traced to a PCO in J P Nagar II phase and investigation is on," he said.
In view of the increasing number of such calls, including the one made to biotech major Biocon earlier this week, Reddy said he has instructed all police stations in the south-west division not only to provide lists of PCOs, but also instruct PCO owners to record the names and addresses of those making the calls.
"We are confident of tracing the culprit very soon," he said.
