BO Report: Delhi 6 manages decent collections
Delhi 6 has managed to gross decent if not great collections in its first week.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6 has managed to gross decent if not great collections in its opening weekend. With mixed reviews, this much anticipated film by Mehra has managed to evoke interest in the metros only.

BO Collections

The Abhishek–Sonam starrer opened in over 1000 cinema screens across the world. In India, on Friday, its first show occupancy was around 35-45 per cent which increased to 65-70 percent in a few metro cities. On Saturday it was around 50-60 per cent and then on Sunday it steadied at 65-70 per cent with a few select multiplexes even sporting a House Full board for noon and evening shows. Though the film hasn't been faring very well in Mumbai, the multiplexes in Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Punjab are continuing to register good collections.

The opening weekend nett collections came to around Rs 18 crore. Monday being holiday on account of Mahashivratri, it added around Rs 3.60 crore nett taking its first four days' extended weekend nett collections to Rs 21.60 crore. If it sustains an average occupancy till Friday, the first weekend nett collections may be a good Rs 28-30 crore.

The opening weekend collections for major multiplex players were as follows - PVR 65-75 per cent, Cinemax 60-70 per cent, BIG 65-70 per cent, G-7 70 per cent and Fun Cinemas 65 per cent.

In the overseas, the opening weekend collections haven't been great. The film opened on Thursday in the Middle East and the rest of the world on Friday. Though it did reasonably okay in the US and the Middle East with collections of Rs 3 and 2.5 crore respectively, it has collected a poor Rs 80 lakh in the UK.

Trade Talk

G-7's Manoj Desai says, "The film is preachy. The music is great but with songs coming in randomly, it is not enjoyable on screen."

Senior trade analyst Amod Mehra feels, "The film is no patch on Mehra's earlier work, Rang De Basanti. Mehra knows his art well but in Delhi 6 he has tried to make individual sequences stand out rather than concentrating on the entire film which is extremely slow."

Veteran trade expert, Amar Solanki observes, "The film was slated to take a good opening but the negative reports spoiled it. The weekend in multiplexes were more because of the advance bookings. The film has taken a drop and the occupancy level is down to 25-30 on Tuesday."
