New Delhi: It was an emotional reunion for Dr Binayak Sen, the human rights activist who walked free from jail on Tuesday after two years.
His supporters cheered him when a frail looking Sen said that his movement against state violence would continue and that he feared for his life.
It was exactly two years and 10 days after he was arrested on charges of sedition and the effects of the life in jail nis evident in the man’s health. But the spirit is not broken as he promises to carry on the struggle though he is happy to be out of jail.
His supporters always held that the award winning doctor and civil rights activist had to pay the price for his relentless criticism of the citizen's vigilante group, the Salwa Judum.
His outspoken anger over fake encounter killings only added to his troubles.
The man still vows to oppose the Salwa Judum and continue his work.
“I condemn violence of any kind. We will work for peace,” said Sen. But this kiss of freedom was tingling with fear as he he speaks of the threat to his life.
The man who had been charged with waging war on the state has come home, but barely so. The battle for bail is over but the battle for freedom remains.
