Major roads and the surroundings are turning sparklingly clean by the day with the countdown for the PM’s visit inching closer. The city looks good and beautiful, thanks to the initiative by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA)which has gone out of the way to make flowers bloom on the road dividers overnight. The works, planned long ago, include beautifying prime medians, developing and relaying of major roads and lighting up traffic junctions. As a part of the beautification drive, the median between the AG Square and Governor’s House has been planted with as many as 20,000 potted seasonal flowering plants. This apart, work has been started on the median passing through the Commissionerate Police Building. The plants include Chrysanthemums of various colours, coloured Poinsettia varieties, Calendula and Marigold.“The flower plants were planted in pots because there are several factors which have to be taken into consideration like underground cables, power and water pipe lines,” said Chief Horticulture Officer of BDA Ashok Dhar.He informed that security personnel are also been deployed at strategic locations to prevent damage to these median plantations by humans and cattle. As a permanent measure, plants like Palm varieties and Bougainvillea will be planted in these medians after the seasonal plants dry off after February-March.Dhar added that efforts are also on to initiate similar plantations in the new median that is being developed from Master Canteen Square to Vani Vihar.
