CHENNAI: The Pachaiyappa’s College campus was abuzz with excitement on Sunday morning, as graduates of the 2009 batch gathered to receive their degrees.Delivering the convocation address, Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, project director of Chandrayaan 1 and 2, appreciated the fact that the convocation was held in the proper manner even if it was delayed by a few years. “It is an important day for every graduate and the management has seen fit to make it a special day for you,” he said.Dr Mylswamy said that on the day they were getting the recognition for their achievements, the graduates should think of the people who helped them get where they were today. “It could be your parents, teachers, friends – each of them contributed to your success. Focus on the right kind of goals, and everything will fall in place,” he said.Recalling the time when his father wanted him to be a student in Pachaiyappa’s College, Dr Mylswamy said, “He liked Arignar Anna very much, and named me after him. He wanted me to study in the same place where Anna studied, but at that time it was not possible. Forty years later, I am happy to be here as a part of your graduation ceremony.” He encouraged those present to create opportunities for themselves and for others. While presenting the diplomas, Dr Mylswamy interacted with the students and congratulated them individually on their efforts. Of the 953 graduating students, 408 were awarded postgraduate degrees and 545 were awarded graduate degrees. Three university level rank holders of the 2007-2009 batch were felicitated. Proud parents and relatives were present to witness their children receiving their hard-earned degrees.Others present at the ceremony were Dr P Kandaswamy, Principal of the college and Dr M Loganathan, president of Pachaiyappa’s Trust Board.
