Gulaab Gang: Produced by Anubhav Sinha, 'Gulaab Gang' brings an interesting blend of unusual elements, the most important being the willingness of arch rivals Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla to share the screen space together. The film is also unique, courtesy its controversial subject. For the uninitiated, it revolves around a group of Indian women activists sporting pink saris, who take every step to eradicate the social injustice in central India (Bundelkhand region). While Madhuri plays the central protagonist, Juhi is all set to shock fans with her first negative character in the film.
Besharam: While many shun the road to becoming an actor as it is uncertain and hard, Ranbir Kapoor, with his willingness to take risks and experiment with roles, has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood. In the years he has spent in the industry, Ranbir has been flexible with practically everything - condemnation, time and change. Ranbir has proved that the unpredictability is the mark of a memorable actor. Interestingly, this is the trait which makes his upcoming film 'Besharam' appealing. As reports suggest, he plays a thief in 'Besharam' who will be caught by his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, who play cops in the film. By every measure, critical appreciation and awards, viewers might want to watch 'Besharam' multiple times.
Dabba (The Lunchbox): If you want to experience something unusual and special, director Ritesh Batra's debut film 'Dabba (The Lunchbox)' should be your choice. The film bagged the critics week viewer's choice award at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival this year. Even with an archetypal Indian story, the film grabbed everyone's attention and has already travelled to festivals world over. If poignant love stories seem impressive, 'Dabba (The Lunchbox)' which stars Irrfan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui could be the movie for you. The movie narrates a story of a middle-aged man whose lunch box gets replaced by another person's lunchbox whose lonely wife starts communicating with him about her life with letters placed in the misplaced lunchbox.
Ship of Theseus: 'Ship of Theseus' puts forth complications in one's life through the stories of a blind photographer, an ill monk trying hard to get justice and an innovative stockbroker. Screened at the Sydney Film Festival, the film bagged the best film trophy at the Transilvania International Film Festival. Karan Johar is so amazed with director Anand Gandhi's "brilliant" effort in 'Ship of Theseus' that he admitted feeling "inferior" as a filmmaker. Kiran Rao, wowed by its unusual storyline and content, introduced an interesting online voting system to popularize the film. Isn't this enough to make 'Ship of Theseus' a movie with the greatest cult following?
Ugly: Based on real events in Mumbai, Anurag Kashyap's 'Ugly' was well received at the Cannes Film Festival. If there is any director which has moved from one cinematic style to other with utmost finesse, it has to be Anurag. 'Ugly', a psychological thriller, which deals with the kidnapping of a young girl, has all the elements to make it a quintessentially Bollywood treasure.
