Bengaluru: Realtors in Bengaluru have announced plans to construct a new drainage system to prevent the impending demolition.
The realtors have said that the government must look for engineering solutions that will prevent flooding -- even if it means violating norms set by the National Green Tribunal.
"As long as the flow of water is not obstructed, and as long as it does not create problem for the neighbouring property, according to me, I don't think there is any problem. So it's an offer that we are going to throw up to the government to do positive work. And I believe the most sensible thing to do is to build this drainage network and it will help to regulate and to see that this city does not flood at any given point in time," realtors'association chaimran Irfan Razack
Meanwhile, hundreds of families whose homes have been demolished by the recent drive have found support from the Namma Bengaluru Foundation. The NGO has offered legal help to distressed families and plans to take on the builders who have now demanded a re-survey of the storm water drain.
"They think they are ruling the state. Their proximity to certain political parties does not give them right to decide. They do not rule. If they come up with a dry and wet storage water drain we will challenge this in the court. The government needs to demolish big buildings and punish the officials responsible," Namma Bengaluru Foundation Founder trustee MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar said.
Many of the builders are now constructing storm water drains to avoid demolition. They also alleged that the current map of storm water drains is faulty.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that he will not spare illegal buildings whether it's or big or small.
