Kolkata: Bengali film 'Ami Aadu' (I am Aadu), produced by the legendary New Theatres studio, has been officially selected in the competitive section of Sao Paulo international film festival.
Directed by debutante Somnath Gupta, the film will compete in the 35th Sao Paulo International Film Festival to be held from October 20 to November 3.
"This is another proud achievement for us," Gupta told PTI.
Starring newcomers Debolina Chatterjee and Samadarshi Dutta, 'Ami Aadu' is a love story of a simple Hindu Brahmin girl and an ambitious Muslim boy in rural Bengal set against the backdrop of the Iraq war.
The film was earlier selected in IFFI Indian panorama last year, won the silver award for best feature film in SAARC film festival and got the National award for best Bengali feature film.
The film also marked the revival of the iconic banner New Theatres, which was founded by the Dada Saheb Phalke awardee B N Sircar in 1931.
