BANGALORE: It looks like the Congress leaders and members of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) are busy with MLC polls and haven’t been able to select the leader of Opposition in BBMP council. Although the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were selected a month ago, the council is yet to have a new Opposition leader. M Udayshankar, acting leader of Opposition, said, “Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act does not stress on Opposition leader’s tenure. The leader can continue till the next elections. However, I will be the Opposition leader till the high command elects a new leader.” Sources said as the Opposition does not have a new leader, they are not pointing at the mistakes of the ruling party.“Last year, the state government had warned the ruling party, asking it to present the budget on time. This does not seem to have affected them. They are already delayed by three months, and the ruling party is yet to present the budget. It is surprising that the Opposition has not raised voice against this yet,” sources said.Besides, though the Technical Vigilance Committee Cell (TVCC) exposed the streetlight scam recently, due to the absence of a new leader, the issue was sidelined. “The current leader M Udayshankar is not taking interest in the council affairs,” sources said.
