New Delhi: Funny is money goes the popular adage. And who else but Indian filmmakers would have realised this better in the last six months. Considering the fact that the first half of 2013 saw the release of 15 comedy films, and many are lined up for the next six months, it is obvious that the filmmakers are cashing in on the genre for huge returns and instant acceptance.
In their attempt to crack up the movie buffs, filmmakers use one-liners, comic set pieces, complex jokes, wordplay and mockery, all ingrained in reversals.
Shashant A Singh's 'Bajatey Raho' may not have lived up to the viewers' expectations, but the film has managed to elicit laughter through its humorous one liners. We bring to you a list of such dialogues which will leave you in splits.
There are spoilers ahead, so you are suggested to come back to this article after you have watched 'Bajatey Raho'.
Bomb suit hai ya bhatti? (Is this a bomb suit or a furnace?) Tusshar Kapoor and Ranvir Shorey, who trick a school principal into paying them a huge amount of money (bribery to ensure his immoral acts aren't revealed), dress up as Bomb Disposal Squad members. Since the bomb suit is extremely bulky, meant to be so to bear up the pressure released from a bomb, Tusshar compares it with a furnace.
Emotional karke kiss lega kya? (Will you snatch a kiss by making me emotionally vulnerable?) Vishakha Singh, who falls for Tusshar Kapoor, almost suddenly in the film, says this when the actor tries to stop her when he drops her outside her home. Those who are trying hard to woo men, this could just be the most apt one-liner.
Ranvir Shorey to Tusshar Kapoor: Agar paehe fridge mei rakhte hain toh kya dahi bank mei jamate hain? (If they keep money in refrigerator, do they use banks to prepare curd?) This is said to call attention to weird ways filthy rich people resort to, to hide their money.
Maine bade badon ko paani pila diya, lekin yeh kaun hai jo meri baja raha hai? (I have conned so many people, but who is this person who has duped me?) Those who are familiar with the typical Delhi slang would face no difficulty in comprehending the hidden meaning.
Yeh who kutta hai jo bhonkta nahi jokta hai. (He is one of those pet dogs that don't threaten people by barking at them. Instead, he is friendly.) Ravi Kisaan says this while introducing his assistant who reads out funny SMS jokes throughout the film.
Customer to Tusshar: Raat ko English picture nahi laga rahe aaj kal? (Why aren't you showing English films late at night?) This is subtle way of saying we miss watching adult movies.
Tusshar to Vishakha: 500 mil gaye. Agar mood ho toh Saket mei morning show? (Was there a way to woo a girl almost instantly? Yes, if you go the Tusshar way. He reaches Vishakha's home to return Rs 100. After returning her the amount (in installments), he shows her a Rs 500 note and asks her out on a date.
