HYDERABAD: Chanchalguda new boy Jagan Mohan Reddy had plenty of company for a game of badminton Wednesday.B P Acharya, Nimmagadda Prasad, Koneru Prasad, B Srinivas Reddy, V D Rajagopal, N Sunil Reddy, and K V Brahmananda Reddy, all in jail in a variety of highprofile cases, trooped out for brisk three-setters with Qaidi No.6093 just after dawn Wednesday.Known to be a fitness freak whether he is on his Odarpu Yatras or in residence at his 75-room Lotus Pond mansion, Jagan was up at 5 am and got going right away with a morning prayer, and then to the badminton courts that were built during the time-in-residence of another famous undertrial, Ramalinga Raju. Then after a cup of coffee, he went through all the vernacular and national newspapers till 9 am.Then he had an austere breakfast: a glass of milk with biscuits.Mulaqaat on Wednesday brought YSR Congress MLA N Prasanna Kumar Reddy to Jagan’s presence. They spoke for 45 minutes. Then came wife Bharathi and aide Vijay Sai Reddy and another 45 minutes passed. She brought home food for her husband but the jail manual would not allow him to have it.Jailors also turned away TDP MLA (but Jagan groupie) Balanagi Reddy because you can’t have more than two mulaqaats on any given day at Chanchalguda. What with special security around the jail, access to the forecourt has become difficult for relatives of jail inmates. Many have not been able to have their mulaqaats since the new prisoner came in.The number of visitors has dropped from 200 daily to 100 in the last three days.Jail officials have been curious about how Qaidi No. 6093 spends his day.“He reads a lot of magazines, newspapers. He watched television too, but only Doordarshan,” said one jailor in a tone of wonder. The prisoner had a monk’s dinner: two chapatis, a small bowl of rice and just a dash of curry and a cup of curd.
