New Delhi: Nila Madhab Panda made heads turn with his debut feature 'I Am Kalam' and went on to make critically acclaimed 'Jalpari'. The director with a social concern is back with 'Babloo Happy Hai', which is set to hit the screens on February 7, 2014. He talks about his style of filmmaking and the theme of his upcoming film.

Panda says, "It's a youth, fun film which tries to explore what youths do at the turning point of their life. Some incidents take place during a road journey in the lives of some friends, and how they get affected by it. It is about love, relationship, sexuality, everything."

"There are no forced plots in the film which we usually see in dramas. It's very realistic, but that doesn't mean I have compromised on the entertainment value. People recognise me as a cause based filmmaker, but it's like I make an entertaining film which also gives some messages," adds Nila Madhab Panda.

Does this mean 'Babloo Happy Hai' will be more dramatic than 'I Am Kalam' and 'Jalpari'. "I will stick to my basics. See, to me, entertainment is of prime value but it shouldn't be mindless. A film is also the reflection of the filmmaker, so it has to be a part of my own journey in life."

"What we miss today is a good script. For 'Babloo Happy Hai', we worked for seven years with Sanjay Chauhan. Also, I am going to experiment with songs in the film which will provide leads to the story. It won't be like the girl suddenly lands up in Switzerland and starts dancing."

The posters of the film are quite bold. "This is something amazing about India. People think that bare backs and the use of raw language are the indication of bold content, but I somehow don't agree with it. The audience needs to be indulged in the story. That's why it took me so long to make 'Babloo Happy Hai' because I was not sure whether it will work or not."

What's the significance of this title? "Earlier, I had a different title, 'Love Is Not Mathematics', but then I realised it's about all the Chotus and Babloos of North India. And, the film explores the reasons behind happiness."

Sumit Suri, who has worked in films such as 'Warning' and 'What The Fish', is playing one of the leads in 'Babloo Happy Hai'. "This is a story about three friends who are on a road trip from Delhi to Manali. I am playing Harvinder Singh alias Harry, who is from Pitampura in Delhi. His friends Jatin and Roshan are his world. I am the poor guy who is teased for being a virgin. My character is very desperate to find a girl and fall in love with her."

Sumit further says, "Jatin (Sahil Anand) is popular among girls and is about to get married, so he is getting a lot of female attention. Rohan (Amol Parashar) is the third friend who doesn't have any interest in girls, so it's about three different perspectives of love."

Sahil Anand is a known face after 'Roadies' and 'Student Of The Year'. He will be seen as Jatin in the film. "The posters may suggest it, but the film is not about sex. I am playing Jatin aka Babloo in the film who is a friendly guy from Delhi. I am about to get married to a cute girl, but another girl walks into my life, so he has a lot of options and now he has to handle everyone in a distinct way."
