PALAKKAD: The website of the Government Tribal Higher Secondary School in Sholayur, Attappadi, will be the first-of-its-kind for a tribal school. The website can be accessed through www.gthssholayur.com.“Out of the 1,200 students of the school, 982 students are tribal students. The website will help the tribal students familiarise with modern day happenings, “ says school principal C Balakrishnan.He said that the school was upgraded to a higher secondary school in 2004 and there was 90 per cent passing results in the SSLC examinations every year.“The idea of developing a website was intended to make the tribal students familiar with the use of computers and also the use of e-mail, “ says Information Technology teacher and one of the website designers Arun M Sunil. The details of the students, staff, history of the school and Attappadi have been incorporated on the site.Each student of the school could create an id using the domain. There is a tracking system to see that the students do not misuse it. The mails sent will simultaneously come and fall at [email protected] separate blog has been created for the school where the students can post their paintings or stories to show their creativity. “Usually, the cost for developing a website on a commercial basis is Rs. 1.25 lakh but we did it for Rs. 25,000. A senior teacher of the school, P G James, had encouraged me. He said that Attappadi Welfare Trust chairman V M Latheef had sponsored for the website. The designing and development of the website was assisted by Sunoj Pappadi and Pradeep from Bangalore, “ Sunil said.
