At This Chittoor School, Teachers Make Students Sing And Play To Make Lessons Fun
Teachers in this school help children learn by engaging them in playing and singing.

The education system in India has become quite competitive. The pressure to perform and achieve good grades, especially in private schools, is quite high. Such schools offer corporate-like infrastructure and charge fees in lakhs. They definitely promise to offer the best education, there are many schools that exploit the innocence of children and their parents by minting money and compromising on the quality of the education. When a child shows interest in studies and memorises everything, it makes everyone happy. Memorising does not increase a child’s knowledge or help them understand the concept. Pressuring them to study at such a young age to push them beyond their capabilities will not help them succeed or enhance their knowledge. Believing in the concept that learning something new should be fun, teachers from Spring Wood School, Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh) help children learn by engaging them in playing and singing.

One of the teachers named Shailaja, in an interview with Local 18, shared that the parents were surprised with her teaching methods as children were reluctant to go home. She shared that her students have been enjoying her classes so much that they expressed the wish to stay back and learn more which further left the parents shocked. Teachers here believe that studying should bring joy and pique their curiosity. Education should not be all about memorising and rote learning only, but it should also involve a basic understanding of concepts. Instead of memorising, the teacher pushes the students first to comprehend the concept.

Shailaja further explained that in private schools, the priority is on theory rather than practical learning. Students are encouraged to learn only from their textbooks. The teacher further explained that the school has a different approach towards education. They are less focused on classroom teaching and textbooks. Instead, they have a practical approach to educating students by engaging them in outdoor activities, poetry and rhymes. This makes the process of learning fun and children participate in it enthusiastically.

Shailaja observed that this technique of teaching has been beneficial and children at quite a young age are speaking English fluently. The educators divide the day efficiently into various activities. What’s interesting is the fee is low and the quality of education is premium.
